Wooden Ducks from DCUK – Personalised Duck Gift Ideas
Leave the first response November 15, 2009 / Posted in GiftsIf you fancy a break from rubber ducks and would like something a little more sophisticated for your collection or even as a Christmas gift idea then Duck Holiday can truly recommend the wooden ducks from The DCUK Company. They are available at Home and Garden Gifts and come in a wide range of colours and sizes. Best of all you can personalise the duck with a name tag to make it extra special.

Prices range from around £10 for baby wooden ducks, £12 for a wooden duckling, £15-£20 for ducklets, and £20+ for ducks. You can also buy families of ducks as well as pairs and trios.
The ducks are good quality and look really good. We have a couple of larger ducks that were stained red and we’re really pleased with them. Note you do pay a little bit extra for the personalisation but we’re not sure it’s worth the extra £5 or so. It’s a nice touch though and perhaps an ideal option for a special gift.

Football Team Ducks – Christmas Gift Duck Ideas!
Leave the first response November 12, 2009 / Posted in Rubber DuckIf you know someone who likes football and likes ducks then the latest “craze” in rubber duck branding may well make a nice gift for Christmas. Over at Play.com there’s now a whole league of football team branded ducks. They come in red, blues and greens depending on the football team and have the club crests on them. Looking at the ducks we think they’re from Bud who make Designer Ducks.

The teams available are Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Celtic and Chelsea. We’d expect to see other Premiership teams added to the collection, but don’t hold your breath for the likes of MK Dons or Northampton Town.
The ducks cost just £4.99 each at Play.com and it’s free delivery too.

Michael Quackson – The King of Pop Rubber Duck!
Leave the first response November 9, 2009 / Posted in LED DucksSince the sad death of Michael Jackson there’s been loads of memorabilia on sale including Jacko tshirts. There’s now a Michael Jackson rubber duck too that is descibed by Totally Funky as a “fitting tribute to the King of Pop, and sure to be a best seller this Christmas”. It would certainly make an interesting addition to a duck collection or as a secret santa gift.

The duck, dubbed Michael Quackson (see what they did there, clever eh?), is an LED bath duck, so lights up when you put it in water. Dressed in a “Bad” album look the duck is pretty cool – the only thing it doesn’t do is moon walk!
It retails at £6.99 but at time of writing is sadly out of stock.
Perhaps Totally Funky can get Derek Acorah to do a seance and see if he can find out when they’ll be more available.

This Peanut Looks Like a Duck – Cool Duck Pictures
Leave the first response October 3, 2009 / Posted in Duck SitesAs a lover of ducks and all things duck related we’re often told about weird and wonderful duck sites. And weird and wonderful is the only way to describe This Peanut Looks Like a Duck. The site, which has been up and running since December 2007 features nothing but photos of everyday items that look like ducks.

It started off, as you’d expect from the name, with a photo of a peanut that looks like a duck and there are now just under 100 photos on the blog. There’s a tomato, a cloud, a window smear, a potato, a zucchini (courgette to me and you), a cherry and even a recycling bin that “all look like ducks”. Now, some of the photos are pretty tenuous, but the majority do look like ducks and it’s a lot of fun.
If you have an every day object that you think looks like a duck (as long as it’s not a duck) then you can send it in to This Peanut Looks Like a Duck and if it’s good enough then it’ll feature on the site. Updates are every month or so so keep visiting to see the latest objects that look like ducks.
Llanelli Duck Race – A Day In The Rain Racing Ducks
Leave the first response September 30, 2009 / Posted in Duck RacesThe Great British Duck Race wasn’t the first duck race Duck Holiday has been too. Just a week earlier on August 30th we popped along the M4 to join in the fun at the first ever Llanelli Duck Race. Organised by Llanelli Sea Cadets this was a fund raising event that attracted interest from local businesses and the community. Unfortunately the weather had a massive impact on the day, but it couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm or spirits of those who attended.

The cadets ran two races. One for individuals, which saw a whole bunch of small ducks washed rapidly down the River lliedi, and another for business which had branded giant ducks (a bit like the O2 advert) manage to look a bit more graceful than their smaller counterparts as they “swam” along the water.

Team Loquax, who run Duck Holiday, had two giant ducks in the business race. One duck made a valiant effort in it’s attempts to win whilst the other ended up on it’s side and narrowly avoided coming last by a beak or two.
Overall, weather aside, it was a fantastic day and hopefully the platform for an annual duck racing event.
